The On Demand Books ‘Espresso’ machine, that prints out a fully bound book in minutes, seems much in the news lately. I myself heard about it twice in the past few days from decidely disparate sources: 1. the venerable (and sometimes didactic) Margaret Atwood on the CBC Radio show Q, noting that the book as medium isn’t dead yet, and 2. in a Search Engine Land blog post, noting that Google has entered into a partnership with On Demand Books for printing public domain books that will be available via Google books. Sounds very interesting, and I’d like to try one. I didn’t see any Vancouver locations listed on the ODB site, so if anyone knows of a local machine please let me know.
